Xavier Niel did not promote it on the stage of the Olympia during his one-man show. But the idea is likely to have crossed his mind. True to his constant desire to present himself as a pioneer of innovation, his Free operator announced on Wednesday that it was the first in France to launch the so-called standalone 5G (or 5G SA) nationwide. The response was not long in coming. In the evening, Orange followed suit with the launch of a so-called 5G + Home offer.
The communication war is still raging in the ultra-competitive telecom market. And 5G SA, also known as « true 5G » or 5+, is one of the axes on which operators will fight in the coming months. As a reminder, this is the second generation of the technology, more powerful than the one launched in 2019 in France for the general public.
