« There are certain books that mark us forever, works that deeply touch us, that change us, » says Delphine Valadon, literary director at the Écume des Pages bookshop in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. « My role is to recommend books based on the reader’s desires and tastes. In search of books in the philosophy, social sciences, humanities, or personal development sections that could change life, we questioned fifteen booksellers across France. They racked their brains and scoured their shelves. Fiction books and political essays were excluded. A difficult exercise that did not discourage them. After more or less lengthy research, each of them selected a work that had marked them and that they particularly wanted to recommend to readers.
